Kirkdale Estate is a stunning coastal estate with views stretching far out across the Solway Firth in an area of outstanding natural beauty, in Galloway, south west Scotland. Home to the Hannay Family for over 500 years, the centrepiece of which is a Robert Adam Georgian Mansion, Kirkdale House, said to have one of the least altered Adam exteriors in Scotland. The Estate has private coastline which is designated a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) with rare lichens and ancient native woodland.

We have two detached holiday cottages to let situated on the Estate. Kirkdale Port sits on the peaceful, private shoreline with spectacular, uninterrupted sea views over the magnificent Wigtown Bay on the stunning Solway Firth. Garden Cottage is equally idyllically situated, nestling into a corner of the original two acre walled garden of the Estate. The cottage has french doors from the sitting-room leading directly into the garden. Guests are given the sole run of the walled garden to enjoy during their holiday.

Both of our holiday cottages sleep up to six, are detached, sit in their own peaceful surroundings and welcome pets. Both cottages have woodburning stoves, enclosed gardens and wi-fi. They are family friendly - each property has a selection of toys, games, books, card and TV/DVD.

The situation of both properties means you can completely escape from the hustle and bustle yet if you wish, seek out a huge variety of activities on your doorstep, including mountain biking, walking, fishing, golf, tennis, horse-riding and sailing. The area is well-known for its beautiful walks, coastline and forest parks. Galloway Forest Park has been recently unveiled as the first Dark Sky Park in the UK winning Gold Tier status from the International Dark Sky Association confirming it as one of the best places for stargazing in the world.

We are only twenty minutes from Castle Douglas Food Town, Kirkcudbright, famous for its artists and Wigtown, Scotland's Book Town.
